About

Our collection of international conflict data began with corrections of the original Correlates of War data, 1816 to 1992. We found numerous, sometimes egregious, errors in the data and began recording our suggestions. After roughly ten years of correcting the data, we became intimately familiar with the dataset and thought the approach of the dataset could be better formed. This conclusion brought the International Conflict Data.

We present here a set of well-sourced, consistently-coded conflict cases between states in the international system. We have made great effort to ensure that the data correctly reflects the historical record while also remaining internally consistent across time and space. We know that, with a project this large, errors will remain despite our best efforts. If users do find any errors or have questions, please contact us.

We thank the United States National Science Foundation for supporting various phases of this data project (with grant #s: 2116678, 1729244, 1729300, 1260492, 1260492, and 0923406). We also thank all the Correlates of War personnel, past and present, for their work on the Militarized Interstate Dispute datasets.
